DESCRIPTION:
The seeds are acrid, anthelmintic, antibacterial, antifungal, aromatic, bitter, diaphoretic, diuretic and laxative. Useful in hypopigmented lesions of the skin like vitiligo and psoriasis as it contains psoralen, which causes the skin to produce new pigment when exposed to sunlight.
Clinical trials were conducted to assess the efficacy of Babchi seeds. Oral administration along with application of Babchi Oil and exposure of the patient to sunlight for 5-30 minutes daily for 1-7 weeks gave encouraging results.
COMPOSITION:
Each 500 mg. capsule contains:
Psoralea corylifolia Dried Extract (6:1) (Babchi) 500 mg.
INDICATIONS: Psoriasis, Scabies and Vitiligo.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: None
SIDE EFFECTS: None
DOSAGE: Take 1 or 2 capsules after meals. Allow several weeks for benefits. More effective if taken along with Babchi Oil.
DIETARY ADVICE:
Safety measures to avoid cuts and scrapes to the skin can be helpful. Sunscreen products can help prevent sunburns and may slow pigment loss. Stress management may lessen the impact of vitiligo.
Avoid banana, beef, bottle gourd, brinjal, butter milk, cashew, curd, custard apple, egg, amla, groundnut, guava, lemon, lentil, melon, milk, orange, pomegranate, prunes, tamarind, tomato and water-melon in the diet.
Almonds, apricot, beetroot, bitter-gourd, black pepper, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, coconut, common salt, dates, drumstick, fenugreek, fig, grapes, horse-gram, mango, mutton, chicken, onion, pineapple, pistachio nuts, potato, pulses, rice, spinach, turnip, walnut and wheat can be eaten.
